The strangest thing

Filed under: Day to day — jorge @ 20:26

Something really strange happened to me today, I don’t know where to begin. But I’ll give it a try anyway. The day had been going okay, but I was feeling a bit gloomy for some reason at the end of my workday. The time was approaching 15.30, so I put on my jacket, took my bag, and left the office. Upon exiting the building, I got eyecontact with an indian looking fellow wearing a turban. He seemed to be talking to someone else, but once he got his eyes on me, he suddenly said to me “You look sad.”, which really struck me as odd. He continued with “You’ve had a hard year. Things have been going up and down, and you feel insecure. But don’t worry, three good things will happen to you.” He continued by taking out some paper and a pen from his bag, and at the same time started explaining that he was a holy man. He wrote a lot of things on that piece of paper, and one of those things was something like this:

1. M

2. B

3. L

And then he asked me, “Do you know what this means?”. I really don’t, I replied. He just looked at me and smiled. I still don’t know what those things meant, but perhaps they will come with time?

He also wrote a date. 2008-12-21 I believe it was. I wonder what will happen then. But the oddest thing was yet to come. During our talk, he took out a green piece of paper, looked at me, and wrote something on it. He then crumpled the paper in his hand, and left it there while we talked. Further into the conversation, he asked me to hold the paper in my hand, which I did. He then asked me, “Name a flower”, to which I replied “Rose”. “Choose a number between 1 and 9″, and I chose 7. Open up the paper he said. And what do you know, he had written Rose and the number 7. I was awestruck. I don’t know if it was pure luck, or what it was. I got a little disappointed though, at the end of the conversation he asked for some money, and I really didn’t have any, and I had to leave. He even asked me to take some out from the ATM machine, which I found a bit rude, which is a shame, because the whole incident put a smile on my face, but the last part just turned me gloomy again.

The odd thing is that I’ve talked with a so called psychic before, and his predictions were correct. I’m from Chile, I’ve brown skin, brown eyes and black hair. The psychic told me that I would end up having a baby with blue eyes. It’s a fact that dark-colored genes take priority over the blue-eyed ones, yet my son has indeed blue eyes and is fairskinned. That’s only one of the things he said.

I’m very curious to see how things goes, and if something does happen, I’ll make sure to write down my thoughts here again.

Lack of words

Filed under: Day to day — jorge @ 04:08

The time is 03.54 in the morning upon typing this, and for once during this week, I am able to find some peace. We’ve had visitors of late, first it was Christine, my sister. Then my mom, and now my two other sisters, Natalia (with her husband and son) and Claudia. Don’t get me wrong, visitors are nice. But sometimes, the only company I want is myself.

Like so many times before, I find myself with a head full of thoughts. I just saw a norwegian movie named Mannen som elsket Yngve, and I have to say, that has to be one of the few movies that gives me the chills, in a good way I mean. I’ve always thought of myself as a happy-ending kind of guy, so I’m rather surprised I liked it that much. But it woke up so many thoughts and feelings that I just have to give it 6/6. I won’t spoil the movie by explaining the contents, but all I can say is that it’s something you don’t want to miss.

Michael celebrated his first birthday exactly a week ago. How time has flown by this quick is beyond me. That’s the reason for the large amount of visitors. We even celebrated twice, when mom and Christine were here, and now that my two other sisters are around. It feels good to know that people care. Even my grandparents from Chile called to congratulate him.

I have mixed feelings about how things have been of late. Sometimes the world couldn’t be a better place, while sometimes it couldn’t be worse. I guess a lot of people have it that way, not just me. Yet I have to admit that I haven’t found anyone that is close to feeling and thinking the way I do. If I had, I probably would not have been writing this. I’m a bit proud I have to say, of the fact that this blog has existed for a while. Well, not that long, but I’ve been known to create and delete blogs simply because I never end up using it. I’m glad that has changed. My head is still swirling with millions of thoughts that I’d just like to get out in the open, but come to think of it, I guess half are just feelings. How do you post that? :)

Strange that I named this post “Lack of words” – seems I had plenty to say after all.

A wave and a greeting to everyone out there, up so late (or early, depending on how you look at it), with millions of thoughts in your head.

Region code hack on the Toshiba SD-350E

Filed under: Day to day — jorge @ 14:28

My sister gave me a Pablo Francisco-DVD as a gift a while ago (I think I’ve mentioned this before), but the problem was then, as it is now, that the DVD was probably bought and shipped from the US to here. Meaning that the DVD-region code isn’t compatible with what we use here in Norway. Frustrated back then, I had to use a computer to watch the DVD, when I just wanted to plant my butt on the couch instead. Thinking all this time that I had to buy a region-code-free DVD-player, I actually found a region code hack for my DVD-player, the Toshiba SD-350E, and it works!

Here’s how you change the region code settings.

  • Turn on the machine.
  • Open up the tray.
  • Type 2403960.
  • Press Enter to cycle to Region 9.
  • Close the tray.
  • Turn the player off.
  • Turn the player on.

And that should be it! You should now be able to enjoy those countless movies you never were able to watch on your DVD-player. If you’re wondering what region code 9 is, have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code. My guess is that region code 9 = ALL.

Enjoy! I know I will. ;)

My previous post was about me working on two projects – the Simple Password Storage-script, and code-fu, an open source pastebin. I’m happy to announce that both are now released, version 0.0.1. Head to the Atlantis Crew-pages to download both. To see and test code-fu, head to http://cf.ulver.no.
