Update: For a newer and updated equalizer-plugin, check out the post Rhythmbox Equalizer Revisited. Everything below here is outdated.
For a while I’ve been using audacious to play my music. No particular reason, other than that it has an equalizer. I’ve heard lots of good things about Rhythmbox though, but lacking an equalizer, I never turned to it. But now, thanks to Teemu Kallio from http://cs.helsinki.fi/u/ttokalli/rb-plugins/, I at least am going to start using Rhythmbox.
Grab the file from http://jorge.fbarr.net/files/rhythmbox-eq.tar.gz. I used to link to the main site, but it seems that it has been taken down.
So, the installation:
$ wget http://jorge.fbarr.net/files/rhythmbox-eq.tar.gz
$ mkdir -p ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/plugins/
$ tar -zxvf rhythmbox-eq.tar.gz -C ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/plugins/
And that’s pretty much it. Fire up Rhythmbox, go to Edit -> Plugins and select Equalizer. Now press the Configure-button to configure it. If you want the Rock-preset that you usually find in audacious and/or xmms, make the equalizer have the same values as in the screenshot below:

A big thanks to Teemu Kallio. :)
First install the program called bchunk:
Now we convert .bin/.cue to .iso:
$ bchunk foo.bin foo.cue foo.iso
And there you go.
Most often when creating different profiles in Firefox, you use them for various things. One profile might have all the web-developer tools and add-ons you need in order to be your geeky self, while profile number two has your gamer-add-ons, which you don’t want to mix. But what if you want certain add-ons to be global? So when you do create a second profile, you won’t have to reinstall the same add-on twice, or more. The answer? Installing things through the command line.
For instance, let’s take the add-on AdBlock Plus. Great add-on. I for one want it on every Profile. So instead of doing it through the browser-interface, installing it once for every profile, do it through the command line, globally.
Become root and grab the add-on:
$ su -
# cd /root/
# wget https://addons.mozilla.org/downloads/latest/1865/adblock_plus-1.0.2.xpi
And then install it globally:
# firefox -install-global-extension /root/adblock_plus-1.0.2.xpi
And presto, the addon should now be located in /usr/lib/firefox/extensions, available for all profiles.
Nifty huh?
You’ve probably noticed that I’ve been going back and forth between various themes. Thing is, the person who made the plaintxtblog-theme I was using is about to call it quits, which means it won’t be developed in the future. So I’ve decided to stick with the Wordpress-classic theme, and just modify it to my own liking. Apologies for the nutty swapping between themes.
Yesterday was quite the day. I took the day off from work, for various reasons. I was taking my theoretic driving exam, Marte had to take an ultrasound, and we had to do tids and bits that you normally don’t have time to do during a normal weekday. Not for us anyway, by the time we get home, most shops are closed, and we’re both tired. So it was really good just having the two of us walking around, like in the old days.
So, first news I guess, I passed my exam, wohoo! Now I only need to learn how to drive properly, and I’ll hopefully be able to do what was my goal in the first place, which brings me to the next news. We’re having a baby! Another addition to the family (Michael will mow the lawn, this one will probably be assigned to washing the dishes. Don’t you just love having kids around!). :)
For real though, it’s nuts. Michael will hopefully have a little brother or sister, someone to play with, and our dream of having another child seems to be coming true. :) Here’s a picture of the ultrasound we took yesterday:

We’re both really thrilled about it. :)
We’ve known for weeks, but didn’t want to tell anyone because of the miscarriage that happened a few months back. We took it really hard, and made the mistake of telling others before things were safer, for the baby that is. Things might still go wrong, but we have no other option but to keep our spirits up, and have faith that everything will go well.
The duedate for the baby is the 24th of December. Sound familiar? :)
